In May 2008 two VAs connected on Ecademy, they were Anne-Marie Mittleman of A Virtual Angel and Emily Robe of emilyrobe.virtualassistant.
When Anne-Marie attended the 3rd National VA Conference and Awards in April 2009, she met Dee Uzoka of DeeVAS.
At the time of the two initial contacts were made the girls didn’t realise that in July 2009 a late night conversation would result in the founding the VA Support Group (VASG).
A lot of VAs “know” each other via Twitter and started “speaking” that way however it is easy to lose conversations in the Twit stream and it was suggested that we form a chat group.
Anne-Marie already had a Skype group set for entrepreneurs, called Business Owners Online but as the VA contingency did tend to highly dominate the members and after THAT late night Skype chat, with Emily and Dee, Business Owners Online became the VA Support Group.
They are proud of what the group has achieved since its inception back in July 2009. They went from talking about it via Skype to having eight members within a few hours.
Currently the group has over sixty members from all over the world and in varying stages of their VA business. Our ethos is “collaboration not competition” and some wonderful partnerships have been formed within the group. Associate work has been generated, business opportunities have been passed on plus great tips and advice has been shared.
The girls created a team known as “the VASG Board” which includes the three co-founders along with Charlie Everiss of Virtual Secretary Solutions. Together they look after the group and ensure that the ethos is upheld and all members are supported so much so that they have opened a second Skype group for more social conversation.
The future for VASG looks bright with some exciting plans coming together and some great joint ventures, of which “The Board” will keep you posted!
